Exciting News! Des Nouvelles Sensationnelles!

After the counting of many votes in last week's election, a brand new T.A.C. has been created! The staff at the Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville Youth Center would like to extend a special thank you to all of the members who took part in this election, whether as candidates or voters. The first meeting of this new youth committee will be on December 16th, 2009 at 7 pm and will be led by one of our benevolent volunteers.

This is a very exciting time at the LYC and we the staff look forward to hearing new ideas and seeing youth take part in the organization and planning of activities once again. We wish the best of luck to all new elected T.A.C. members and promise to do our best to help you accomplish your goals for our youth center. Congratulations!

Après avoir compté le grand nombre de votes pour l’élection de la semaine dernière un Conseil des Jeunes tout neuf a été crée ! Les employées du Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville veulent remercier tout les membres qui ont participé à cette élection soit comme candidats soit comme électeurs. La première réunion du conseil aura lieu le 16 décembre, 2009 à 19h et sera guidée par un de nos bénévoles bienveillants.

Ceci est un moment très intéressant à la MDJ Lennoxville et nous les employés avons hâte d’entendre vos idées et voir des jeunes organiser/planifier des activités de nouveau. Your Youth Center is in Jeopardy and Needs Your Help!

Joindre le CJ c’est Faire une Différence !

As you may have heard through the grape vine, us staff at the youth center are feeling very discouraged by the lack of youth involvement at the LYC. There’s been a great deal of disrespect towards the center and the staff, as well as frequent lying, breaking of the rules and frankly, a WHOLE lot of laziness. If you care about our center then show it. You may sign up for the LYC Teen Activity Committee until Wednesday, December 2nd.

This committee allows you to make important decisions, plan events and decide how the TAC money should be spent (It’s over $1000). The meetings are only about once a month and if you work efficiently, they shouldn’t take any longer than two hours. If you don’t take the steps to join this committee or help them out, you have no right to complain about what goes on at the LYC. Is there something you’re not happy with? Then CHANGE it, by nominating yourself for the TAC.

Elections will take place by secret ballot from Dec. 3rd-5th, so stop by and vote for who you want running the activities at the LYC. The results will be announced on December 9th and a meeting will be held afterwards to decide who will fill each position.

**If you would like to nominate yourself for the TAC or vote, but cannot make it to the LYC, please notify us in a private message on facebook and we will mark it down for you.

Comme vous l’aviez peut-être déjà entendu, les employés du Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville se sentent découragé par le manque d’implication des jeunes dans les activités du Centre. Ces jours-ci il y a un grand manque de respect envers le centre-même et les animateurs, les règles ne sont pas suivis, il a beaucoup de gens qui mentent et franchement, on voit énormément de paresse. Si le centre vous tient à cœur, montrez-le. Vous pouvez vous inscrire pour le Conseil des Jeunes (autrement connu comme le TAC) jusqu'à mercredi le 2 décembre.

Ce conseil vous permet de prendre des décisions par rapport au centre, organiser des événements/activités, et décider comment dépenser le budget du conseil (plus de mille dollars !). Les réunions auront lieu environ une fois par mois et si vous êtes efficaces, elles ne durent pas plus de 2 heures chacune. Si vous ne faites pas l’effort de joindre le CJ ou au moins les aider, vous n’avez aucun droit de vous plaindre de ce qui se passe au centre. Y-a-t’il quelque chose qui ne vous convient pas ? Changez-le alors, en vous joignant le CJ!

Les élections auront lieu avec un scrutin anonyme (secret ballot) du 3 au 5 décembre, alors venez au Centre pour voter. Les résultats seront annoncés le 9 décembre et une réunion aura lieu après pour décider qui occupera chaque poste du CJ.

** Si vous aimeriez vous nominez pour le CJ ou voter, mais ne pouvez pas venir au Centre cette semaine, envoyez-nous un message Facebook (privé) et on le notera pour vous.

Xmas Sleepover Bonanza!! - Venez Dormir a la MDJ Lennox!!

Vendredi le 18 décembre on vous invite à dormir au Youth Center. C’est la dernière soirée que l’on est ouvert jusqu’à janvier, alors profitez-en ! On espère faire un échange de cadeaux, jouer aux jeux, regarder quelques films, manger des collations, se détendre et peut-être manger au Pizzaville le matin d’après. Si cet événement vous intéresse, inscrivez-vous au LYC car les places sont limitées. La feuille d’inscription se trouve sur le mur en face de la porte, et la date limite d’inscription c’est le 4 décembre.

**Notez-bien : Les employés de la Maison des Jeunes Lennoxville ont le droit d’interdire la participation à cette activité. Les décisions seront faites individuellement.

You are invited to spend the night at the Lennoxville Youth Center, Friday December 18, 2009. It's the last night we're open until after Xmas break so come see us before the New Year! We hope to do a gift exchange, play some games, watch some movies, eat some snacks, relax and maybe get some breakfast the morning after. If you're interested, please sign up at the LYC as spaces are limited. The sign-up sheet can be found on the lobby wall facing the front door and the deadline to sign-up is December 4th.

**Please note: The employees of the Lennoxville Youth Center reserve the right to restrict participation in this event. Decisions will be made on a case-to-case basis.

Stand Up!

This week, as you may or may not know, is very special. November 16th to 20th is National Anti-Bullying week. Perhaps you’re thinking to yourself, “So what?” Well, it’s important for you to know that bullying is a VERY serious issue. It’s happening all around you: at Galt, on the school bus, on Facebook and yes, at the LYC.

Bullying doesn’t seem so bad when you’re the bully or the bystander but think about the person who’s on the receiving end. Do you think it feels good to have someone insult you, to fear for your safety or feel sick at the thought of going to school? It doesn’t. And it isn’t just the bully who is at fault. If you’re a bystander witnessing bullying and you do nothing, YOU are part of the problem. By not sticking up for that person, intervening, or going to get help, you are letting bullying happen!

Over the past few months we have become increasingly aware of another issue, online bullying. We’ve noticed more and more youth using online forums like MSN or Facebook to send insults, threats and to harass others. Bullying via text message is the exact same thing. You should all ask yourselves this question: If you wouldn’t say it in person, why say it online? Don’t be a coward and hide behind your virtual shield and if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all.

Thinking something's wrong is only step one... take a public stance on bullying on International Stand Up to Bullying Day. Wear PINK on Friday, November 20, 2009 and check out the videos below! Anti-Bullying bracelets are also available (for just $2) from some of your fellow LYC members. Just ask if you are interested.

Most importantly, if you are a bully or are being bullied and would like help, us animators are always here for you.

Hey!

The first week of November we are going to see Michael Jackson's movie, "This is it". We will let you know the specific date and time in the near future. You will have to bring your own money to pay for your ticket.

If there are 3 or less youth that want to participate, we will go by car. If there are more people we will go by bus. Again, you will have to pay for the bus there and back.

Wanna help someone who needs it?

At the LYC we will be collecting non-perishable food items (or donations) to give to the Bishop’s University Meal Exchange. These donations will in turn be donated to the local women’s shelter.

This is really a great cause. Think about this: while we chill at the LYC chatting on facebook and snacking on Tuck Shop treats there are people living in alleys who haven’t eaten for days.

There are people in your country, in your province, in your town starving.

So please, stop by and drop off a can of soup, some noodles, a package of rice, ANYTHING will help.

We will be collecting until October 31st so let’s make an effort to collect lots and lots of food so we can make a difference.

Saviez-vous qu'il y a 2.4 millions de Canadiens qui souffrent de la faim ?

Au Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville nous allons collecter de la nourriture non-périssable (ou de l'argent si vous préférez) pour « Meal Exchange » de l'Université Bishop's. Vos dons seront donnés à un abri pour femmes de la région sherbrookoise.

Ceci est vraiment une bonne cause. Pensez-y : Pendant que nous sommes au centre en train de chatter sur Facebook et manger des bonbons du Tuck Shop, il y a des gens vivant dans des ruelles qui n'ont rien mangé depuis des jours.

Il y a des gens dans votre pays, votre province et votre ville qui meurent de faim.

Donc s'il vous plait, passez au centre et amenez une boîte de soupe, des pâtes, du riz, n'importe quoi peut aider.

Nous allons faire cette collecte jusqu'au 31 octobre alors faisons un effort afin de ramasser beaucoup de nourriture pour que nous puissions faire une différence.

• Where: Maison des Jeunes Azimut Nord (100 rue Marchand,Sherbrooke. In the Jacques Cartier Park).
• Time: 7 pm -11 pm
• Cost: Only ONE dollar if you’re wearing a costume ($2 if you’re not)

We have to know how many people are interested in order to organize transportation as well as decide on meeting/departure times. This event is open to all youth ages 12-17. If you’d like to go with the Youth Centre please sign up by OCTOBER 17TH. There is a signup sheet at the youth centre on the wall facing the front door. **Please note: You are responsible for paying your entrance fee so be prepared to bring a few dollars with you.
